FIBER KEEPS ITS PROMISE

BY

GEORGE GILDER

"Today, I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs,
and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law
unfolds." Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, John Malone, are
you listening?"

Get ready. Bandwidth will triple each year for
the next 25, creating trillions in new wealth.

Editor's note: Four years ago, Forbes ASAP published its first issue with
a stunning prophecy by contributing editor George Gilder. Fiber optics,
said George, had the potential to carry 25 trillion bits per second down
a single strand. This represented a ten-thousandfold leap in carrying
capacity over the 2.5 billion bits "barrier" long assumed by most experts
in the field. What did George see that others had missed? One, a
little-recognized (at the time) breakthrough called an erbium-doped
amplifier, which keeps optical signals pure and strong over long distances.
The other was a deep technical shift, with roots in the 1940s-era work of
information theory pioneer Claude Shannon. If you believed Shannon, his
logic dictated a new messaging scheme called wave division multiplexing.
Though scorned by the experts four years ago, WDM now is emerging as the
winner George had prophesied.

The real winners will be all of us, as the coming world of cheap,
unlimited bandwidth unfolds and at last fulfills the true potential
of the information age. Here is George with an update.

IMAGINE THAT IN 1975 YOU KNEW that Moore's law–the Intel chairman's
projection of the doubling of the number of transistors on a microchip
every 18 months–would hold for the rest of your lifetime. What if you
knew that these transistors would run cooler, faster, better, and cheaper
as they got smaller and were crammed more closely together? Suppose you
knew the law of the microcosm: that the cost-effectiveness of any
number of "n" transistors on a single silicon sliver would rise by the
square of the increase in "n."

As an investor knowing this Moore's law trajectory, you would have
been able to predict and exploit a long series of developments: the
emergence of the PC; its dominance over all other computer form factors;
the success of companies making chips, disk drives, peripherals, and
software for this machine. With a slight effort of intellect, you
could have extended the insight and prophesied the digitization of
watches, records (CDs), cellular phones, cameras, TVs, broadcast
satellites, and other devices that can use miniaturized computer power.
If you did not know precisely when each of these benisons would flourish,
you would have known that each one was essentially inevitable. To
calculate approximate dates, you had only to guess the product's optimal
price of popularization and then match its need for mips (millions of
instructions per second) of computer power with the cost of those mips
as defined by Moore's law.

Merely by using this technique of Moore's law matching–and holding
to it with unshakable conviction for nearly 20 years–I became known as
a "futurist." Today I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs,
and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds. You
can tell me about the 98% penetration of TVs in American homes, the
continuing popularity of couch-potato entertainments, the effectiveness
of broadcast advertising, and the profound and unbridgeable chasm
between the office appliance and the living-room tube. But I will pay
no attention. Just you wait–Jack Welch, Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch,
John Malone, and David Jennings–the TV will die and you may be too late
for the Net.

It is now 1997, and a stream of dramatic events certifies that
another law, as powerful and fateful and inexorable as Moore's, is
gaining a similar sway over the future of technology. It is what I have
termed the law of the telecosm.

Its physical base lies in the same quantum realm of eigenstates
and band gaps that governs the performance of transistors and also makes
photons leap and lase. But the telecosm reaches beyond components to
systems, combining the science of the electromagnetic spectrum with Claude
Shannon's information theory. In essence, as frequencies rise and
wavelengths drop, digital performance improves exponentially. Bandwidth
rises, power usage sinks, antenna size shrinks, interference collapses,
error rates plummet.

The law of the telecosm ordains that the total bandwidth of
communications systems will triple every year for the next 25 years. As
communicators move up-spectrum, they can use bandwidth as a substitute
for power, memory, and switching. This results in far cheaper and more
efficient systems. In 1996, the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force.
Parallel communications in all-optical networks became the dominant source
of new bandwidth in telecom. Like Moore's law, the law of the telecosm
will reshape the entire world of information technology. It defines the
direction of technological advance, the vectors of growth, the sweet spots
for finance.

AMERICA'S DARK SECRET

FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, American companies have been laying optical
fiber strands at a pace of some 4,000 miles a day, for a total of more
than 25 million strand miles. Five years ago, the top 10% of U.S. homes
and businesses were, on average, a thousand households away from a fiber
node; now they are a hundred households away.

However, the imperial advance of this technology conceals a dark
secret, which has led to a pervasive underestimation of the long-term
impact of photonics. Sixty percent of the fiber remains "dark" (unused
for communications) and even the leading-edge "lit" fiber is being used
at less than one ten-thousandth of its intrinsic capacity. This problem
has prompted leaders in the industry, from Bill Gates and Andy Grove to
Bob Metcalfe and Mitch Kapor, to underrate drastically the impact of fiber
optics.

Restricting the speed and cost-effectiveness of fiber has been an
electronic bottleneck and a regulatory noose. In order for the signal
to be amplified, regenerated, or switched, the light pulses had to be
transformed into electronic pulses by optoelectronic converters. For
all the talk of the speed of light, fiber-optic systems therefore could
pass bits no faster than the switching speed of transistors, which tops
out at a cycle time of between 2.5 and 10 gigahertz. Meanwhile, telecom
companies could not deploy new low-cost fiber products any faster than
the switching speed of politicians and regulators, which tops out roughly
at a cycle time of between 2.5 years and a rate of evolution measurable
only by means of carbon 14.

Nonetheless, the intrinsic capacity of every fiber line is not 2.5
gigahertz. Nor is it even 25 gigahertz, which is roughly the capacity
of all the frequencies commonly used in the air, from AM radio to kA
band satellite. The intrinsic capacity of every fiber thread, as thin
as a human hair, is at the least one thousand times the capacity of what
we call the "air." One thread could carry all the calls in America on
the peak moment of Mother's Day. One fiber thread could carry 25 times
more bits than last year's average traffic load of all the world's
communications networks put together: an estimated terabit (trillion
bits) a second.

Over the last five years, technological breakthroughs and
legislative loopholes have begun to open up this immense capacity to
possible use. Following concepts pioneered and patented by David Payne
at the University of Southampton in England, a Bell Laboratories group
led by Emmanuel Desurvire and Randy Giles developed a workable
all-optical device. They showed that a short stretch of fiber doped
with erbium, a rare earth mineral, and excited by a cheap laser diode
can function as a powerful amplifier over fully 4,500 gigahertz of the
25,000 gigahertz span. Introduced by Pirelli of Italy and popularized
by Ciena Corporation of Savage, Maryland, and by Lucent and Alcatel,
today such photonic amplifiers are a practical reality. Put in packages
between two and three cubic inches in size, the erbium-doped fiber
amplifiers (EDFAs) fit anywhere in an optical network for enhancing
signals without electronics.

This invention overcame the most fundamental disadvantage of
optical networks compared to electronic networks. You can tap into an
electronic network as often as desired without eroding the voltage
signal. Although resistance and capacitance will leach away the
current, there are no splitting losses in a voltage divider. Photonic
signals, by contrast, suffer splitting losses every time they are
tapped; they lose photons until eventually there are none left. The
cheap and compact all-optical amplifier solves this problem. It is an
invention comparable in importance to the integrated circuit.

Just as the integrated circuit made it possible to put an entire
computer system on a single sliver of silicon, the all-optical amplifier
makes it possible to put an entire system on a seamless seine of
silica–glass. Unleashing the law of the telecosm, it makes possible a
new global economy of bandwidth abundance.

Five years ago when I first celebrated the radical implications of
erbium-doped amplifiers, skepticism reigned. I was summoned to Bellcore,
where the first optical networks had been built and then abandoned, to
learn the acute limits of the technology from Charles Brackett and his
team. I had offered the vision of a broadband fibersphere–a worldwide
web of glass and light–where computer users could tune into favored
frequencies as readily as radios tune into frequencies in the atmosphere
today. But Brackett and other Bellcore experts told me that my basic
assumption was false. It was no simpler, they said, to tune into one of
scores of frequencies on a fiber than to select time slots in a
time-division-multiplexed (TDM) bitstream.

Indeed, electronic switching technology was moving faster than
optical technology. In the face of the momentum and installed base of
electronic switching and multiplexing, the fibersphere with hundreds of
tunable frequencies would remain a fantasy, like Ted Nelson's Xanadu.

In 1997 the fantasy is coming true around the world. Xanadu has
become the World Wide Web. The erbium-doped fiber amplifier is an
explosively growing $250 million business. Electronic TDM seems to
have topped out at 2.5 gigabits a second. TDM gear has suffered a
series of delays and nagging defects and so far has failed in the market.

Electronic TDM failed not only because it pushed the envelope of
electronics but also because it violated the new paradigm. In
single-mode fiber, the two key impediments are nonlinearities in the
glass and chromatic dispersion (the blurring of bit pulses because even
in a single band different frequencies move at different speeds).
Chromatic dispersion increases by the square of the bit rate, and the
impact of nonlinearities rises with the power of the signal.
High-powered, high-bit-rate TDM flunked both telecosm tests. By
contrast, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) follows the laws of
the telecosm; it succeeds by wasting bandwidth and stinting on power.
WDM takes some 33% more bandwidth per bit than TDM, but it reduces power
to combat nonlinearity and divides the bitstream into multiple
frequencies in order to combat dispersion. Thus it can extend the
distance or increase capacity by a factor of four or more today and can
lay the foundations for the fibersphere tomorrow.

In 1996 the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel
communications in all-optical networks, long depicted as a broadband
pipe dream, crushed all competitors and became the dominant source of
new bandwidth in the world telecom network. The year began with a
trifold explosion at the Conference on Optical Fiber Communication in
San Jose when three companies–Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, NTT Labs,
and Fujitsu–all announced terabit-per-second WDM transmissions down a
single fiber. Sprint confirmed the significance of the laboratory
breakthroughs by announcing deployment of Ciena's MultiWave 1600 WDM
system, so called because it can increase the capacity of a single fiber
thread by 1,600%.

The revolution continues in 1997. At the beginning of January,
NEC declared that by increasing the number of bits per hertz from one to
three, it had raised the laboratory WDM record to three terabits per
second. During 1996, MCI had increased the speed of its Internet
backbone by a factor of 25, from 45 megabits a second to 1.2 gigabits.
On January 6, Fred Briggs, chief engineering officer at MCI, announced
that his company is in the process of installing new WDM equipment from
Hitachi and Pirelli that increases the speed of its phone network
backbone to 40 gigabits per second. Accelerating MCI's previous plans
by some two years, the new system will use a more limited form of
wavelength-division multiplexing to put four 10-gigabit in-cause
formation streams on a single fiber thread.

The first deployment will use existing facilities on a 275-mile
route between Chicago and St. Louis, but the technology will be extended
to the entire network. This move will consummate a nearly thousandfold
upgrade of the MCI backbone, from 45 megabits per second to 40 gigabits,
within some 36 months. Ciena, meanwhile, has announced technology that
allows transmission of 100 gigabits per second.

Its February IPO was the most important since Netscape (market
cap at the end of the first trading day: $3.4 billion). Why? Ciena is
the industry leader in open standard WDM gear. During the first six
months the MultiWave 1600 was available, through October 1996, the firm
achieved $54.8 million in sales and $15 million in net income. (Lucent
is believed to be the overall leader with more than $100 million of
mostly proprietary AT&T systems.) At the same time, the trans-Pacific
consortium announced that it would deploy 100-gigabit-per-second fiber
in its new link between the United States and Asia.

A powerful new player in these markets will be Tellabs, currently
the fastest-growing supplier of electronic digital cross-connect switches
and other optical switching gear. In a further coup, following its
purchase of broadband digital radio pioneer Steinbrecher, Tellabs has
signed up all 12 principals in IBM's all-optical team. Headed by Paul
Green, recent chairman of the IEEE Communications Society and author of
the leading text on fiber networks, and by Rajiv Ramaswami, coauthor of
a new 1997 text on the subject, the IBM group built the world's first
fully functioning all-optical networks (AONs), the Rainbow series.
Tellabs now owns the 11 AON patents and 100 listed technology disclosures
of the group.

The implications of the WDM paradigm go beyond simple data pipes.
The greatest impact of all-optical technology will likely come in
consumer markets. A portent is Artel Video Systems of Marlborough,
Massachusetts, which recently introduced a fiber-based WDM system that
can transmit 48 digital video channels, 288 CD-quality audio bitstreams,
and 64 data channels on one fiber line. Aggregating contributions from
a variety of content sources–each on different fiber wavelengths–and
delivering them to consumers who tune into favored frequencies on
conventional cable, the Artel system represents a key step into the
fibersphere. It can be used for new services by either cable TV
companies or telcos.

The deeper significance of the Artel product, however, is its use
of bandwidth as a replacement for transistors and switches. The Artel
system works on dark fiber without compression. The video uses
200-megabit-per-second bitstreams (compare MPEG2 at 4 to 6 megabytes
per second) that permit lossless transmissions suitable for medical
imaging, and obviate dedicated processing of compression codes at the
two ends.

A move to massively parallel communications analogous to the move
to parallel computers, all-optical networks promise nearly boundless
bandwidth in fiber. According to Ewart Lowe of British Telecom, whose
labs at Martlesham Heath in Ipswich have been a fount of all-optical
technology, the new paradigm will reduce the cost of transport by a
factor of 10. For example, the optoelectronic amplifiers previously
used in fiber networks entailed nine power-hungry bipolar microchips
for each wavelength, rather than a simple loop of doped silica that
covers scores of wavelengths.

As these systems move down through the network hierarchy, the
growth of network bandwidth and cost-effectiveness will not only
outpace Moore's law, it will also excel the rise in bandwidth within
computers–their internal "buses" connecting their microprocessors
to memory and input-output.

While MCI and Sprint move to deploy technology that functions at
40 gigabits a second, current computers and workstations command buses
that run at a rate of close to 1 gigabit a second. This change in the
relationship between the bandwidth of networks and the bandwidth of
computers will transform the architecture of information technology.
As Robert Lucky of Bellcore puts it, "Perhaps we should transmit signals
thousands of miles to avoid even the simplest processing function."

Lucky implies that the law of the telecosm eclipses the law of the
microcosm. Actually, the law of the microcosm makes distributed
computers (smart terminals) more efficient regardless of the cost of
linking them together. The law of the telecosm makes broadband networks
more efficient regardless of how numerous and smart are the terminals.
Working together, however, these two laws of wires and switches impel
ever more widely distributed information systems, with processing and
memory in the optimal locations.

WHAT SHOULD THE MAJOR PLAYERS DO NOW?

FOR THE TELEPHONE COMPANIES, the age of ever smarter terminals
mandates the emergence of ever dumber networks. Telephone companies
may complain of the large costs of the transformation of their system,
but they command capital budgets as large as the total revenues of the
cable industry. Telcos may recoil in horror at the idea of dark fiber,
but they command webs of the stuff 10 times larger than any other
industry. Dumb and dark networks may not fit the phone company
self-image or advertising posture. But they promise larger markets
than the current phone company plan to choke off their own future in the
labyrinthine nets of an "intelligent switching fabric" always behind
schedule and full of software bugs.

Telephone switches (now 80% software) are already too complex to
keep pace with the efflorescence of the Internet. While computers become
ever more lean and mean, turning to reduced instruction-set processors
and Java stations, networks need to adopt reduced instruction-set
architectures. The ultimate in dumb and dark is the fibersphere now
incubating in their magnificent laboratories.

The entrepreneurial folk in the computer industry may view this
wrenching phone company adjustment with some satisfaction. But computer
firms must also adjust. Now addicted to the use of transistors to solve
the problems of limited bandwidth, the computer industry must use
transistors to exploit the nearly unlimited bandwidth. When home-based
machines are optimized for manipulating high-resolution digital video at
high speeds, they will necessarily command what are now called
supercomputer powers. This will mean that the dominant computer
technology will first emerge not in the office market but in the
consumer market. The major challenge for the computer industry is to
change its focus from a few hundred million offices already full of
computer technology to a billion living rooms now nearly devoid of it.

Cable companies possess the advantage of already owning dumb
networks based on the essentials of the all-optical model of broadcast
and select–of customers seeking wavelengths or frequencies rather than
switching circuits. Cable companies already provide all the programs
to all the terminals and allow them to tune in to the desired messages.
But the cable industry cannot become a full-service supplier of
telecommunications unless the regulators give up their ridiculous
two-wire dream in which everyone competes with cable and no one makes
any money. Cash-poor and bandwidth-rich, cable companies need to
collaborate with telcos–which are cash-rich and bandwidth-poor–in a
joint effort to create broadband systems in their own regions.

In all eras, companies tend to prevail by maximizing the use of
the cheapest resources. In the age of the fibersphere, they will use
the huge intrinsic bandwidth of fiber, all 25,000 gigahertz or more, to
simplify everything else. This means replacing nearly all the hundreds
of billions of dollars' worth of switches, bridges, routers, converters,
codecs, compressors, error correctors, and other devices, together with
the trillions of lines of software code, that pervade the intelligent
switching fabric of both telephone and computer networks.

The makers of all this equipment will resist mightily. But there
is no chance that the old regime can prevail by fighting cheap and
simple optics with costly and complex electronics and software.

The all-optical network will triumph for the same reason that the
integrated circuit triumphed: It is incomparably cheaper than the
competition. Today, measured by the admittedly rough metric of mips per
dollar, a personal computer is more than 2,000 times more cost-effective
than a mainframe. Within 10 years, the all-optical network will be
thousands of times more cost-effective than electronic networks. Just
as the electron rules in computers, the photon will rule the waves of
communication.
I know people would not write it..But worth a try:)

um… i really doubt that people will write you a summary… just do it yourself

Why do ppl say moslems have invented 1000 inventions while Iran invents several thousand each year?

Special thanks to my American friend who helped me proofread my writing. It's taken me almost a year to find some pieces of this information.
I believe that if you spend 5-10 minutes reading this essay, you will be better informed than if you listen to a lifetime's worth of Major Media news. Please don't assume that I'm a very old person. I'm just 18, and a university student studying English who just cannot sit back and let the lies fly unchallenged.
This article has two parts:
1. Cultural and general info
2. Political info.
If you wanna know the rest of of the story, read it from top to bottom.
Note:.I've explained all the things that you ALWAYS talk about, so read it all plz! Specially the political part! Any answers before reading the whole thing will prove to be wrong.
****
Hi. I'm an Iranian who has spent his life in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I am shocked to see how totally wrong their ideas are about Iran. I wrote this article in an attempt to help correct those ideas.
The first thing America, and the West in general, accuses our government of is that we don't allow personal freedoms. Actually, Iranians disobey laws they don't like as much as anyone. Many strict rules in other countries don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite dish. Sattelite television has a serious influence on our people, and Iranians wear very fashionable clothing. Maybe it is a kind of imitation, but we still have our own unique Iranian style. A visitor might wonder if this is a country or a fantasy pageant of beauty queens! Almost half of women wear their hair out, and make-up and fashionable clothing are everywhere. Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmetics. You would be surprised to see the difference between what you imagine and what Iran really is!
In my view, everything is great, if you ignore unemployment, inflation and air pollution. But I guess these are common problems around the world today, aren't they? Also, you can't compare Iran today with the Iran you remember. The Shah and the Iatollah Khomini are both some 30 years in the past!Nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is a new generation without the biases of the past (The youth), and we've transformed everything.

Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran. But in my view, women are overrunning the place. But that's not a bad thing. They're very respectful, and they've been the winners in so many cases: They get into the best universities because they're very smart. And they get the best jobs because they can do so many of them better than men. (That's why men can hardly find any good jobs because most jobs are already occupied by women!) They've got Islamic rights, and that has in some cases made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands are supposed to buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women have the right to ask a great amount of money (called Mehr) according to the law, which most husbands cannot afford, so they (men) will be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's because such places are full of cheeky guys. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here. I feel foolish for sitting here explaining ordinary things to you.

Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery. Have you ever asked yourselves how many years ago that footage related to? Are they balck and white or colourful? But in one case (related to many years ago) something terrible had happened which was just beyond the borders of adultery. We think being punished for corruption is good, as it deters people from doing that and the society will be far healthier than the countries in which commiting such things is considered to be normal! Iranians expect their gov't not to be soft on criminals. And for your information, most of those footages are from Afghanistan which was ruled by freaks (Taliban). When you think of such things, try to think of the racism in your country too. There's no perfect country!
I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are ——— SEPERATE COUNTRIES! ——— Even within Iran, 60% of us are Persian and 30% are Turkish! I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other in the world. The point is, there's nothing mysterious about us! The Media are very good at creating really scary stuff: "IRAN BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!!" "IRAN UNDERCOVER!!!" Some of that garbage would be enough to scare ME away! But in truth, Iranians are far more open-minded than you have been led to believe.
There are lots of Iranians today who are geniuses and scientists, and are all under age 25. You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. For instance a 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions and there are many KIDS like that. Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different competitions in the world all the time, in robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the Media talk about them? Please don't summarize our nation and culture with the single word "nuclear". Although we're proud of this achievement because we believe that having nuclear energy means that a country is developed.Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran

A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and it was signing treaties with other countries to export it. I searched for news of that on the internet, but there was no single sign of it. What did I find instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!" (The same old story!) The Media are unjust. They put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they never talk about facts!
Some interesting facts:
Iran is a pioneer in medicine and genetics, and Iranian surgeons have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects, and many diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgeons are Iranian. The head of the Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian. Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering. Holds the second place in building dams and in loads of other things! It's one of the top countries in bio-technology and nano-technology. The 4th highest tower in the world (Milad tower) is in Tehran (visit it at this link from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Milad.jpg ). 51 of the top 100 universities in the Mid-East are in Iran, and they're among the top universities of the world as well. The champion weight-lifter, a woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians. Lots of Iranians win nobel prizes specially in the field of medicine. Iranian girls are famous for being terrific. We have Persian rugs and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are very famous. Iranian culture is now westernized and only a little of the ancient culture has survived. According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world (for foriegners of course, not for us! Our rate is different: one Dollar =about 950 Tomans!) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? Iran is an independant country unlike its neighbours. It has nearly all the industries and technologies found in 'developed' countries. The list is endless.

News: "Iranian scientists managed to make human teeth grow after you've lost them using basic cells" I'm gonna introduce Iran's international news website to you (Press TV) which was established recently. It's fully in English. You'll find what they're hiding from you! In the "Sic / Tech" section you'll always see Iran's discoveries. The address is: http://www.presstv.ir/news.aspx… Press TV news: Iranian scientists have registered more than 4800 inventions during the last Iranian calendar year of 1385 (April 21 2006-April 20, 2007). 4800 inventions in just one year!

Some charactristics of Iranians would be: intelligent, ambitious, a bit idealistic, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly, hospitable, and not so religious. We are also proud, greedy, hard-working (for ourselves), not punctual, impatient, and lazy at doing our duty well.

Some people think Iran is a desert! Well, it is, if you consider California, New Mexico, Utah, Arkansas, and Alabama a desert. We share the same latitude. Some people think music is forbidden in Iran. Did you know that Iranian music was chosen as the best pop in France in 2005? I guess not. All Iranian songs are current pop / DJ music. I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all say they're some of the best songs they've ever heard. What makes Iranian music killer, is a lot of Trance drums, incredible melody and lyrics!

Here's a sample of the latest hits from two official Iranian music websites. (So catchy, Right?)You can just right click on the links below and choose "Save Target As" to download them. The translation of the songs is here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArJe6s_u1UbLFRAAiKDGBZLsy6IX?qid=20070514105433AAysEsQ

And so on and on!

It's now 2007 and most people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns! See how the media are fooling people?
Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The Media are good at putting lying comments out there. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the TV screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that…..I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us. For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it against Iran. For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without refering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that. No sane person would take such nonsense at face value.

First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad, is it? (Although what we want from them is to shut up and not get us into trouble by talking about things that are none of our concern) We hate neither Jews nor Americans. I love Americans, otherwise why would I talk to them?! How would our guys dream of America, want to be like them as much as possible, and hate them at the same time?! I've got to say that for Iran, Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a gov't. Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam? Have you ever found a Muslim knocking at your door asking you to do so? It's so funny the way you imagine things and make yourselves believe in your own immaginations!
Christians and Jews are both God-believers and respectful to us. I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion is one of the least important factors. Where you come from and what your religion is are not important to us at all. On the contrary, meeting different people would be very interesting for us!

I wonder who Iran is really a threat to. Is it logical to say someone's guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that he's going to do something wrong? And they repeat the same "nuclear weapons" tosh over and over and brainwash people! News headlines: "We won't allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons"!!! Correction! It's "nuclear energy". Besides, how many "nuclear weapons" do they have themselves? Hundreds of thousands? Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No. Has it developed any nukes? No! That's what nuclear agency says. Only Iran's opponents are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is of no credit. It's just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal. Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Saddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relations with all of them. It can set an example to some countries that just follow their interests (oil!). Interesting! the countries accusing Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! How logical!

Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all? You know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! He wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally. Iran has always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country.

Some say he's said: "The Holocaust is a myth!" Again, this is a single phrase taken from a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so. If 6,000,000 Jews were killed, that's terrible, but 300,000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all? Over 650,000 Iraqi people are killed and that's not important?! When Fox News simply says that America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing Iran's population of 69,000,000 within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nagasaki and the Vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a myth. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? I'd judge people by their ACTIONS rather than by what they say / their religion / race / culture and the colour of their skin!

Obviously, some countries are using Iran as a scapegoat to put the blame (for their own faults) on. And what country is better than Iran to be a scapegoat? The whole world believes that Iran isn't a peaceful country. I know Americans don't like this either, but what can they do? They're not responsible for controlling what the Media says. This part is just for Americans who would still argue over unimportant things: Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America":
1. 'America' to us means the U.S govt, not the people. How do you expect Iranians to mean "American people" when our media admires Americans for marching and holding up "no war" placards?!
2. The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfriends/boyfriends! Strange. Isn't it?
3. Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake. right?)
5. The U.S gov't helped Saddam attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians.
6. America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason.
7. America places sanctions on Iran, promotes a false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away, and harms our economy, development and credit. To what purpose?

When you call Ahmadinejad a nutcase for what he's said, what do you call Bush for his actions? I mean it's a good idea to consider what Bush is doing to the world with his wrong decisoins and lies. Bush is powerful and influencial, but Ahmadinejad is nothing.
To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days:
1. Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and it's almost a part of history, and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be chaos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy. Aren't they?
2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and had tortured the one who was freed. Poor British sailors were detained by the English gov't just for saying that they were treated well in Iran and that Iranians were logical people (They said these when they were on England's soil!) They were PREVENTED from releasing their memoirs by England! Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. How do you believe in their lies about politics when they hide both the most and the least important things from you considering the fact that politics is the world of lies in its nature?!!! Considering all this, you'd probably be able to GUESS what percentage of what they tell you about the Mid-East, Islam, Moslems and other things is true!!! lol

Isn't it better for both countries to forget past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? Our two gov'ts are like 10 year old children playing a stupid, harsh, rhetorical game. They don't care about hurting people's feelings. They just try to make our two peoples enemies to achieve their own goals. We, as the people of these countries, MUST NOT allow these conflics into our hearts. You know something? All govt's are hateful. I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about the taking of the 444 hostages while I keep silence. I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think? I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! They've started to have diplomatic talks! (Naughty children!) That's great!

People will you still fear Iran after reading this?

I believe that if you spend 10 minutes reading this essay, you will be better informed than if you listen to a lifetime's worth of Major Media news. This article has two parts:
1. Cultural and general info
2. Political info.
Note: I've explained everything.Any answers before reading the whole thing will prove to be wrong.Specially the political part.I've provided evidance for whatever I say. It's just the way it is.
****
Part 1: Cultural and general info
Hi. I'm a 19 year old Iranian who has spent his life in Iran.I study English.
There are only a few restrictions. It's cool over here. People here do whatever they wish to! Many strict rules in other countries don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. Some of Iran's laws are based on OUR culture. You look at our country from "your own point of view"! In Iran every single house has a sattelite dish. Sattelite television has a serious influence on our people, and Iranians wear very fashionable clothing. Maybe it is a kind of imitation, but we still have our own unique Iranian style. A visitor might wonder if this is a country or a fantasy pageant of beauty queens! Almost women wear half their their hair out, and make-up and fashionable clothing are everywhere.I ignore a few fuddy-duddies though! We look at the world in a beautiful way, cos we know what's it like! Many of you don't even have a clue what's life like in other countries! Buy a satllite. It's worth it! I assure you!
You would be surprised to see the difference between what you imagine and what Iran really is!
In my view, everything is great, if you ignore unemployment, drugs, inflation and air pollution. (Common problems in today's world?) Also, you can't compare Iran today with the Iran you remember. The Shah and the Iatollah Khomini are both some 30 years in the past! 70% of Iran's population is a new generation (Under age 30) without the biases of the past and we've transformed everything.
Ever heard Iranian girls are terrific?I've collected some photos showing Iranian girls! Look! Poeple are like this!
http://www.salijoon.ir/bazigar/hedye%20tehrani/30nema4251159.JPG
http://www.30nema.com/images/gallery/30nema4252403.jpg
http://i10.tinypic.com/4clk3us.jpg
http://tinypic.com/2d0nfao.jpg Enough proof?
Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran. But in my view, women are overrunning the place. They're very respectful, and they've been the winners in so many cases: They get into the best universities because they're very smart. And they get the best jobs because they can do so many of them better than men. They've got Islamic rights, and that has in some cases made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands are supposed to buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women have the right to ask a great amount of money (called Mehr) according to the law, which most husbands cannot afford, so men will be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's because such places are full of cheeky guys. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.
Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery. Have you ever asked yourselves how many years ago that footage related to? Are they balck and white or colourful? But in one case (related to many years ago) the thing that had happened was incest not adultery. Most of those footages are from Afghanistan which was ruled by freaks (Taliban) or the very early days just after Iran's revolution! Otherwise you'd get new footages at least once a month! What exactly makes you think women are treated differently? The way they were/are treated in Saudi Arabia? Try to think of the racism in your country too. Each country has its own problems.I found a BOOK of the U.S problems and it got me dizzy! Iran has its own problems too.
Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are ——— SEPERATE COUNTRIES! ——— Even within Iran, 60% of us are Persian and 30% are Turkish! Iran is a normal country like any other in the world.
For instance a 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions. Every year a special scientific compeition is held here and students assemble to show off hundreds of inventions.

A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine. I searched for news of that on the internet, but there was no single sign of it.Now, I found it among the English news: "The medicine is produced from herbs using nano technology" The link to read about it is: http://www.payvand.com/news/07/feb/1032.html
The Media are unjust. They never talk about facts!
Some interesting facts:
Iran is a pioneer in medicine and genetics, and Iranian surgeons have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects, and many diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgeons are Iranian. The pioneer in heart transplants and artificiall hearts and so on and so! (I've put two websites below) The head of the Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. The champion weight-lifter, a woman the nobel peace prize are Iranian. The 6th top movie director in the world is Iranian.(Abbas Kiarostami) http://arts.guardian.co.uk/fridayreview/story/0,12102,1084266,00.html
Iranian Director's Film Wins Spanish Festival Top Prize - VOA News (September 25, 2004) These are just small samples.I can't put every news about Iran here. Then you should visit press TV website.
Iranian girls are famous for being terrific. We have Persian rugs and Persian literature, many Persian poets, artists and scientists that are world famous. Iranian culture is now westernized and only a little of the ancient culture has survived. According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world (one Dollar =about 950 Tomans! For example you can buy windows vista for 1 Dollar here instead of 700 Dollars!!!wow!) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? Iran has nearly all the industries and technologies found in 'developed' countries. Oh, and we have four seasons! We get a lot of snow and there are skating rinks! lol The list is endless.

I'm gonna introduce Iran's international news website to you (Press TV) which was established recently. It's fully in English. In the "Sic / Tech" section you'll always see Iran's discoveries. The address is: http://www.presstv.ir/news.aspx Press TV news: Iranian scientists have registered more than 4800 inventions during the last Iranian calendar year of 1385 (April 21 2006-April 20, 2007). 4800 inventions in just one year!
The list of highly-respected Iranian scientists in the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Iranian_scientists_and_engineers#T
The list of notable Iranian figures and pioneers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_Medicine_in_Iran

Enough evidence?

Some people think Iran is a desert! Well, it is, if you consider California a desert. We share the same latitude. Christians and Jews are both God-believers and respectful to us. In Iran, religion is one of the least important factors. Where you come from and what your religion is are not important to us at all.

I wonder who Iran is really a threat to. Is it logical to say someone's guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that he's going to do something wrong? And they repeat the same "nuclear weapons" tosh over and over and brainwash people! Correction! It's "nuclear energy". Besides, how many "nuclear weapons" do they have themselves? Hundreds of thousands? Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No. Has it developed any nukes? No! That's what nuclear agency says. Only Iran's opponents are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Saddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relations with all of them.

Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! the thing is that he exactly said: "The Imam "Khomeyni" said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally. Besides, they've been saying such things for a long time. It's their habit. Here's an article."Wiped off the map….The roumor of the century.Read how the media and the U.S newspapers have twisted it into a controvertioal topic. http://www.antiwar.com/orig/norouzi.php?articleid=11025 I don't like the way he speaks frankly, but admit that other presidents say many terrible things too, but the media doesn't pull their leg so much!
Now you see that you were wrong.Iran has always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country.

Some countries are using Iran as a scapegoat to put the blame (for their own faults) on.
This part is just for Americans:
Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America":
Would you?)
4. The U.S gov't helped Saddam attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed a million Iranians.
5. America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason.
6. America places sanctions on Iran, promotes a false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away, and harms our economy, development and credit. To what purpose?

When you call Ahmadinejad a nutcase for what he's said, what do you call Bush for his actions? I mean it's a good idea to consider what Bush is doing to the world with his wrong decisions and lies. Bush is powerful and influencial, but Ahmadinejad is nothing. He's even failed to control the inflation
.
Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. How do you believe in their lies about politics when they hide both the most and the least important things from you considering the fact that politics is the world of lies in its nature?!!!

If you like to insist on your theory of attacking Israel, I'll tell you our logical theory: "The moment that Iran attacks Israel, Iran will be wiped off the face of the earth by the U.S and its allies.(Thought this twisted phrase is familiar to you) and Iran is far more logical than doing such a stupid thing" So, forget about it.I'm quite sure you know that all the events and lies in the world are a part of a pre-planned scenario by major world-powers (Iran as an important country has always been a part of their plans)And the first step is to brainwash people. They excactly know what will happen even 50 years later! I think Iraq is such a good example.Attacking it with the excuse of removing Seddam while they'd put Seddam there themselves and had supported him for years! The same is true with Al Qaida if you do some research! But in this particular case Iran and the U.S were co-operating in fighting the terrorists in Afghanistan.

When we think of the U.S, we think of its greatness and its countless "positive points" not its president. When you think of other countries, you think of their presidents or a nation as a whole?! No gov't in the world is representative for its people.Try to judge everyone righteously not just by a few things that you find as "negative points".

Now, what do you think? You'll have elections soon and we'll have one in 2009.You just vote for a Democrate and we'll find someone who'd get along with the U.S (Our former pres is a nice bet).Deal? No matter how much they hide this fact, but if Iran and the U.S co-operate with each other, not only the Mid-East crises will be solved but also it'll have a great positive impact on the world.I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous!
BTW, Did you find my article informative? : )
Thanks for your time
To Heather: I agree with a lot of what you say.But violating of human rights doesn't belong to Iran. Here's the international website where you can see the violation of human rights in all countries.Choose the country you want.I read the U.S profile and it was horrifying. In each country the cases are different.Plz read the same for the U.S and other countries too: http://web.amnesty.org/report2006/usa-summary-eng You're right. In Iran they're related to hair and tight clothing and stuff. All this doesn't mean that life's bad. It's so coll. How many people would commit illigal sex here? How many would wear their hair out?Only a few who here are considered hooligans. The values of each country differer.P.S wearing fashionable clothes doesn't necessarily mean being half naked. Here the mesning of fashion is different. Also, for the rest I've provided so many links as evidence.I have back up for whatever I say.If you're afraid of clicking on the links that's not my problem.I've

Salaam, Khoobi !
Fascinating. Loved every thing you've mentioned, also the links, loved'em all. I really appreciate the time and effort you've put in this. I'm certain, there're lot of people who will enjoy this and get informed a bit about our country. Don't worry about some of these clowns with weired and repugnant responses. There're lot of good Americans who get the points and are comprehensible, however there're lot of fu**heads among them as you can observe in some of the responses who are total jerks and are completely blinded by nationalism and think they're better than every body and every nation!! F**em, not worth paying attention to those kinds. I came to Iran few years back after 20 years being abroad and loved every Minuit of it. Spend three months with friends and family and travelled a lot, specially 'SHOMAL'. Amazing time i had and amazing GIRLS! wow, it was awesome! Tehran was totally changed and lot more modernized. You're definitely on the money, those westerners who don't know Iran, won't conceive how it is. OK, take a good care of your self and keep up a good work!

PS. I'm really impressed with your English and writing. Hamah ro beboos!

Why Practice Personal Development ?

Personal development is a self help program of conscious effort to develop specific life skills. A personal development plan should include goals for personal growth and action plans in support of the desired growth.

Personal Development Plan

Unfortunately, we often practice this process backwards, addressing self help and personal development without the clarifying foundation of a personal development plan based on purpose of life. Though we surely benefit from every self-help book read, every class taken, and every personal growth lecture attended, the greatest benefits will result when new life skills align with and support a clear purpose of life.

Conscious Personal Growth

The first and most critical step, then, in effective and satisfying personal development is to discover and clarify your purpose of life. Purpose is the answer to the question, “Who am I and why am I here?” Knowing life purpose brings focus, meaning, resilience, and fulfillment to your life; this is a fundamental self help activity.

Life purpose is unique to each individual; parents, teachers, religious leaders, philosophers, and even media personalities may give us their view of life purpose. But it is just that–their view. Your unique purpose of life lies deep within yourself, covered by layers of teachings, warnings, fears, and doubts which we accumulate from others.

“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it,” ~ Buddha

USP Labs Anabolic Pump 90 caps

USP Labs Anabolic Pump 90 caps

Product Description Every once in a great blue moon a supplement comes along that completely changes the bodybuilding industry. First it was MRP’s, creatine was next and now Anabolic Pump : The Genetic Equalizer. Don’t mistake me saying Anabolic-Pump is the next creatine. It’s notbecause creatine only wishes it could do what Anabolic-Pump does with ease… If you want to quickly gain more muscle mass, torch bodyfat from your “trouble areas” faster than a speeding bullet AND completely transform yourself into a lean, muscular “stud” without changing your diet or workoutsthen this letter is going to blow your mind. The company I work for, USP Labs, has recently developed a brand-new supplement so unique and effective, Industry-leading magazines such as Muscular Development and Planet Muscle are going crazy about it. In fact, Internet message boards such as Bodybuilding.com and Anabolicminds.com are going complete ape-shit over the results this “almost magical” supplement is producing. Saying they are shocked by the transformations bodybuilders with otherwise “crappy genetics” are making would be an understatement. For example, look at the transformation natural bodybuilder Armando Aversa from Monroe, CT made after using this amazing supplement for only 7 weeks “I was very skeptical when first hearing about Anabolic-Pump from a guy at the gym. But when I literally woke up every morning with more muscle and less bodyfat than I had when I went to bed I was a believer! After just 7 weeks I have gained 14.2 pounds of muscle and lost over 19.7 pounds of fat! As a personal trainer I’ve tried every supplement out there, Anabolic-Pump is the fastest, most powerful ever developed!” Imagine yourself in just a few short weeks with dramatically increased muscularity, significantly-reduced bodyfat levels, greater strength, more energy, and an entire new outlook on life! Well, for thousands of people who were born with crappy genetics, this dream is

Success University Review - Self Help

http://fojack.successuniversity.com/specialoffer

http://fojack.successuniversity.com/
Up until now if you wanted personal development or self help education, you had to buy a book on your chosen subject. Success University has really brought Personal Development to a new level. Now from the comfort of your own home, you can now watch all the personal development top speakers give video presentations online

http://fojack.successuniversity.com/specialoffer

What I love about Success University is the value given. There are huge numbers of courses available in your back office so running out of material to learn should never be an issue. As Nelson Mandela says ” Education is the most powerful thing for changing the world”

For things to change for you , you first have to change. You need to be careful what you put into your head. Garbage in, garbage out. Empowerment in, empowerment out. By learning all the material that success university offers, you WILL become highly successful in all areas of your life, financial, family relationships, fitness, spiritually, emotionally, etc.

From a personal level, once I embarked on my own personal development journey, my life has changed. I have a wonderful wife and son. I have a thriving business from which I can do and buy nice things for myself and my family. All of this would not of been possible without personal development. I just basically think different. I now only see opportunity where as before I saw negativity. I now control my thoughts where as before I let outside situations and outside people control my thoughts. I now have a vision of my future and what I want my life to be where as before I had no vision and just lived day to day hoping instead of planning for my successful future.

So even if you do not wan to join Success University and start your personal development, I strongly urge you to involve yourself in some way with personal development. It WILL change your life as it has mine.
